Blooming Pots

Roll your sugar cookies extra thick, cut out and place on a baking sheet.
Press a bamboo skewer lightly into them before baking.
The skewer will bake into the dough, giving you a cookie on a stick.

Ice the cooled cookies and wrap in a cellophane bag and close tightly with ribbon or a twist tie and “plant” in the pots.

Top 5 Carrier Oils for Wrinkles, Aging and Dull Skin!

Many of us are aware that carrier oils are used in skin care preparations to improve conditions of the skin, hair and nails. However, many of these fix oils offer us much more than as a carrier base for essential oils. Here are our top 5 carrier oils for wrinkles, aging and dull skin.

Evening Primrose Seed Oil
One of the best carrier oils for wrinkles. Try it also on your nails, too. Evening Primrose Oil is anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and a blood vessel dilator. The main characteristics of Evening Primrose Oil increases skin resistance to ultraviolet rays and aids in blood circulation. Not only it is one of the best carrier oils for wrinkles, it helps to prevent aging of the skin!
* Base oil: Use a 10% dilution.
* Store in cool, dark location {away from sun}.

Rosehip Seed Oil
A wonderful oil for the treatment in reducing wrinkles! Rosehip oil is rich in EFA's, vitamins C and E. Use just a small percentage (low ratio) to treat many skin conditions, most notably dehydrated skin that has prematurely aged. It is also reputed to help in preventing and reducing stretch marks and age spots because it is not just wrinkles that make us look weathered.

Carrot Seed Oil
This is actually an essential oil but it is often used in base oils. It is orange in colour. Excellent for dry, dull and mature skin. Especially good when used as a skin rejuvenator. The oil's high carotol content gives it regenerative properties, which helps with dull and aging skin. It blends well with Rosehip Seed Oil.
* Base Oil: Use a 10% dilution
* Product clarification: Carrot seed essential oil is not the same as infused carrot oil, or carrot tissue oil,
which comes from the edible carrot.

Avocado Oil
Moisturizes, reduces appearance of age spots, heals sun damage and scars. Additionally, avocado regenerates and rejuvenates the skin. Avocado increases collagen in the skin and therefore is an anti-aging ingredient in skin care. Avocado oil has superior moisturizing qualities.
* Base oil: Use as an addition to a base oil. 10% dilution

Borage Oil
Borage oil is a good skin rejuvenator and excellent for all skin types especially maturing skin and sun-damaged skin. This oil is high in GLA, an important fatty acid for maintaining healthy skin.
* Base Oil: Blend using 10% dilution with other carrier oils.
* Best to purchase in small amount as it goes rancid rather quickly.
* Store in cool, dark location {away from sun}

Application Use:
Remember to do a patch test on your skin first. Do not apply directly on your skin without permission or discussion with your aromatherapist first. If pregnant, use only under doctor's care. These are highly concentrated oils and may burn the skin. For easiest use, mix a small amount of your facial cream with a few drops of your favourite carrier oil, blend well and apply to your face, neck and hands. Please read our disclosure policy.

I recently attended a woman's business luncheon and at my table I met a couple of shop owners. The conversation eventually turned to how to best manage employees.

It was agreed that a level of leadership was needed to develop engagement as well as reduce staff turn-over. Leadership traits that everyone agreed where the following:

Be positive for all not just for your bottom line.
Lead by example, people do respect leaders when they live by their word.
Build rapport. Everyone likes to feel connected so take the time and build relationships with your staff.
Don't stress out. It does nothing but alienate your staff.
You don't know everything and that's okay.

4 Common Traits of Successful Small Businesses, Crafters and Retailers

Over the last 8 years, I've worked with and met many small companies, retail shops and crafters who create and sell wonderful products and I've discovered a common theme among the individuals who have been able to move their love of what they do into a successful business.

These are the 4 common traits:

1. Opportunity is everywhere. These individuals will discuss and review every opportunity, joint venture or partnership that comes along their way. They don’t say no quickly and before they do say no, they will check it out and at all angles. This also allows for negotiation to take place, which may help to create a win-win opportunity for all parties.

2. Long-term vision. In addition to loving what they do, they do have a long-term vision, which drives them to invest in themselves to enhance their sales, leadership and negotiation skills, for example.

3. People friendly. Some crafters love the craft, while others enjoy the people they meet along the way. While some retailers are motivated by independence but don’t enjoy the people side of retail. But a successful business is not solely dependent on single factor, so consider taking on a partner who would handle the people side of things.

4. Curiosity leads the way. These individuals are typically testing or fixing something, which usually leads them to be progressive in the business side of things. They are always learning, moving up the ladder of expectation for their craft, themselves and their business. Even as simple in how they respond to an email or how they greet you at their shop are usually different.

Get Ready For Spring: Probably the worst "junk food" anyone can take is hydrogenated oil--margarine, hydrogenated peanut butter, shortening. These oils have undergone a chemical change which makes their structures unusable by the body. These oils clog up the digestive tract and bloodstream and cause many problems, including that oily skin that troubles you!

Eliminate them from your food diet and look for food products with natural oils (olive, safflower, almond, sesame--there are many choices for you to choose from, take advantage).

You'll see a real difference.

Chocolate Beet Cake Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups of beets, puree (you can purchase canned beets. if you are using fresh beets, trim, clean and boil until tender. remove skin and puree)
2 cups of flour
1 1/2 cups of dark brown sugar
4 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted (or 1/2 cup of cocoa powder)
2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup butter
3 eggs

Application:

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla. Add the beet puree and the melted chocolate at this time, although in the video it shows adding the beets at the end of the process.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda and salt. If you are using the cocoa powder, add it here.

Stir the dry mixture into the beet batter and combine.

Pour into a 9-inch cake pan and bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.

Hi Gang,

I've gotten several emails lately asking how I stay motivated with blogging and while I did reply to all the emails, I thought it would be a good topic for the blog. Here are my top 5 tips on how I stay motivated with blogging.

Be open to finding topic inspiration from anywhere, like the emails I received!
Don't limit your topics. Yes, you do need to stay focused and true to your brand but the benefit of social media is that it gives us more freedom to express our interest in a wide number of topics.
Blog what you like. This can be a challenge especially if you are a business and look to social media to promote your store or your service. Review Tip #2 and consider discussing your industry trends or look for other industry experts in your industry to add content for your blog.
Go with the flow. Stop stressing. Just accept that some days are great blogging days and while other days you just need a break and go shopping!
Have a yearly goal: As much as I go with the flow, I do create a yearly marketing plan with goals and expectations. This does make life more interesting and blogging with a greater purpose.

I hate plates on a wall as a decor style.

I grew up with this look; it seemed to be everywhere… this one-dimensional, non-responsive, unimpressive décor style. Several of aunts as well as my mom loved and continue to enjoy the 'plates on a wall' theme for their kitchens. Even my mother-in-law has this style in her dining room.

And, then this happens...

Happy Valentine with Red Velet Cookies

This great recipe comes to you from Ivonne, creator, foodie and blogger for Cream Puffs in Venice. When I found her blog I had an immediate connection to her as her roots are like mine, an Italian Canadain who loves to cook. But Ivonne is much more confident than I am in showcasing her work.

Here is one recipe that caught my eye!

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, cut up
1 tablespoon red food coloring
3 ounces white chocolate (with cocoa butter), coarsely chopped
1 1/2 teaspoons shortening
Finely chopped pistachios or rainbow nonpareils (optional)

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. In a food processor, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Cover and process with on/off turns until combined. Add butter and red food coloring. Process with on/off turns until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Process until mixture just forms a ball.

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough lightly until nearly smooth. Roll or pat dough to a 1/2-inch thickness. Using a floured 1-1/2-inch round cutter, cut out dough. Place cutouts 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Press scraps together and reroll.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until centers are set. Transfer cookies to a wire rack; let cool.

In a heavy small saucepan, melt white chocolate and shortening over low heat, stirring constantly. Dip half of each cookie into melted chocolate. If desired, sprinkle with pistachios or nonpareils. Let stand on waxed paper until set.

Makes about 24 cookies.

Rose hydrosol (or rose water) is a wonderful water that offers a soft beauitufl floral aroma. Rose Hydrosol provides us many skin healing properties as well as mental health benefits. It can be used directly on the skin but do a patch test first if you've never tried Rose Hydrosol.

Wonderful toner for the skin. Simply spray on face liberally, especially after the gym.
Add to unscented lotions for added moisturizing benefits.
Reduces Stress. Spray on pillow or office and inhale deeply and slowly.
Spritz in clean laundry. For added happiness.
Spray on tablecloth before setting the table. For added pleasent table talk.
Add to bath water. Rose pedals, chocolates and soft music, optional!
Men's After shave: Apply it as an after shave to soothe irritated skin

Mature Skin Rose Toner

1 cup of rose hydrosol
2 drops Frankincense essential oil
2 drops Sandalwood essential oil
1 drop of Lavender Essential Oil
1 drop Chamomile essential oil

Add to a dark amber glass with spray. Shake well before using. Spray sparingly on face, neck, and body. Store in a dark, cool place. Should have a shelf life of 1/3 months. If you are looking for added moisturiser, add 1 ounce of glycerin.

Rose water, add water with lemon juice to taste. Add a little red food coloring to give it more 'red' colour. Add rum for cocktail parties or crushed ice for tea parties. Mint leaves for garnish.

A Natural Perspective on YouTube

We haven't made any videos for our blog..., not yet anyway. But we did take advantage of this platform and create our own video play list.

The main reason for not doing our own video is because we are not exactly sure what we would talk about and we don't want to do a video just to gain SEO for our blog. Wouldn't that be just a bore.

Plus, whenever we do visit YouTube we discover great content and okay..., lots of not so great conent. At this moment we feel we would do better at developing our own channel showing our favourite videos and ones that we feel fit nicely with our blog.

Make Lavender Sugar

Lavender Sugar | sucre aromatisé à la lavande

Recently tasted Lavender sugar, a delicious surprise and easy to make. Try it with fresh fruit like blueberries, strawberries and raspberries to give it a slight unique taste. Experiment with tea too!

Ingredients:

2 cups caster sugar
1 tablespoon organic culinary lavender buds (culinary is key word here)
Food processor or spice grinder
Airtight containers—jars with lids, plastic containers or plastic zip lock bags.

Process

Place 1 tablespoon culinary lavender buds in a food processor or spice grinder and mix until the buds are transformed into a powder.
Pour the lavender and sugar together into a glass container with a tight fitting lid.
Label the container and store in a pantry or cabinet away from light.

Gift Idea: Package the lavender sugar in an attractive glass container with a pretty label. Makes a great thank you for inviting me to dinner gift and you're a great teacher gift!
