Ginger, Ginger Essential Oil, Ginger Loaf, and More

Ginger ~ Zingiber officinale V52B8GEQJPPF

The ever popular spice Ginger began in South Asia.  Pure Ginger essential oil usually comes from India, sometimes China and its aroma is sharp, woody with a touch of pepper, perfect for home holiday aroma blends.

When using Ginger essential oil, it can burn the skin and should be used with a carrier oil if application will be for a body massage.  It is a strong oil and can easily over power delicate essential oils, so ensure the essential oils you pick will compliment Ginger.

{Health Uses}
Ginger oil can be used with other essential oils such as Cinnamon and Chamomile making it a wondferul blend for a massage or aching muscles.   You can also add a few drops to your body lotion and apply directly to sore muscle or help circulation.  Add one drop to your tea for Ginger Tea.

  • Preheat over to 160 C / 320 F
  • Place butter, sugar and treacle (or molasses) in saucepan over low heat until the butter is melted
  • Remove saucepan and cool before adding milk, blend
  • Sift together the dry ingredients into a large bowl
  • Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and add the liquid ingredients
  • Mix to combine, do not over mix
  • Pour batter into greased loaf (6 x 9)
  • Bake for 45 / 1 hour, until toothpick comes out clean.
This was my first time making a ginger loaf, I read and searched online for a good recipe.  I picked this one from Our Kitchen (ourkitchen.fisherpakel.com).  I didn't have molasses or treacle on hand, so I replaced it with Corn Syrup, which made the loaf a bit bland, but still tasty.  But I now understand why there are sooo many Ginger Cake recipes out there, it is a delicious cake.  It is a defenite a re-do, this time with molasses!
